PNG to JPG Converter
Your files never leave your device
Conversion runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded; the only downloads are this page and the conversion engine. You can confirm it in your browser's network tab.
Why convert PNG to JPG?
To shrink large PNG photos for email or upload limits, or because a form only accepts JPG.
What changes in the JPG
- Photos saved as PNG often shrink 5–10×.
- Transparent areas become solid white, since JPG has no transparency.
- Screenshots, text and line art can get faint smudges (“ringing”) around sharp edges, and may not shrink much.
How Convertz converts it
Your browser decodes the image and re-encodes it with its built-in JPEG encoder at quality 92, on a white background. Camera metadata (including GPS location) is not copied to the new file.
Everything happens on your device; the file is never uploaded.
Common pitfalls
- Keep the PNG for logos, screenshots and anything you will edit again; JPG loses a little quality every time it’s saved.
- If you need a transparent background, convert to WebP instead, which keeps transparency at a small file size.

What is PNG?
A lossless format created in 1996 as a patent-free replacement for GIF. Pixels are stored exactly, with full alpha transparency, which makes it the right choice for screenshots, logos, diagrams and anything with text. Photos saved as PNG are large.
What is JPG?
The standard format for photographs since 1992. It discards detail the eye is least sensitive to, so files are small, but each re-save loses a little more quality, and hard edges such as text pick up visible artefacts.
