HEIC to PNG Converter
Your files never leave your device
Conversion runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded; the only downloads are this page and the conversion engine. You can confirm it in your browser's network tab.
Why convert HEIC to PNG?
PNG is useful when you will keep editing the image, when an app needs lossless input, or for HEIC images that contain transparency.
What changes in the PNG
- Files get much larger, often 5–10× the HEIC size, because PNG stores every pixel exactly.
- No further quality is lost after the conversion, so repeated editing and saving is safe.
- Transparency in the HEIC, if any, is kept.
- HDR, depth data and Live Photo motion are dropped; the colour profile is kept.
How Convertz converts it
ImageMagick, compiled to WebAssembly, decodes the file in your browser. It applies the photo’s rotation, keeps the colour profile and transparency, removes camera metadata including GPS location, and writes a PNG.
Everything happens on your device; the file is never uploaded.
Common pitfalls
- For sharing or uploading ordinary photos, JPG is the better choice: PNG photos are large and some sites reject files over a few megabytes.
- PNG doesn’t make the photo sharper; detail lost when the HEIC was taken can’t be recovered.

What is HEIC?
The default photo format on iPhone since iOS 11 (2017). It stores images compressed with the HEVC (H.265) video codec, which gives files roughly half the size of a JPEG of similar quality, and can also hold depth maps, HDR gain maps and image sequences such as Live Photos’ still frames.
What is PNG?
A lossless format created in 1996 as a patent-free replacement for GIF. Pixels are stored exactly, with full alpha transparency, which makes it the right choice for screenshots, logos, diagrams and anything with text. Photos saved as PNG are large.
