PNG to WebP Converter
Your files never leave your device
Conversion runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded; the only downloads are this page and the conversion engine. You can confirm it in your browser's network tab.
Why convert PNG to WebP?
To make website images smaller while keeping transparency, which JPG can’t do.
What changes in the WebP
- Files typically shrink by half or more, and transparency is kept.
- The WebP is lossy at quality 92: photos look the same, but pixel art, tiny text or diagrams may lose crispness.
How Convertz converts it
Your browser encodes a lossy WebP at quality 92 with its built-in encoder. Browsers that can’t encode WebP (some Safari versions) fall back to ImageMagick in WebAssembly with the same quality.
Everything happens on your device; the file is never uploaded.
Common pitfalls
- Keep the original PNG: re-converting WebP back to PNG won’t restore exact pixels.
- Check that the place you’re uploading to accepts WebP; some print services and older CMS plug-ins don’t.

What is PNG?
A lossless format created in 1996 as a patent-free replacement for GIF. Pixels are stored exactly, with full alpha transparency, which makes it the right choice for screenshots, logos, diagrams and anything with text. Photos saved as PNG are large.
What is WebP?
A web image format with both lossy and lossless modes, transparency and animation. Google’s own tests found lossy WebP 25–34% smaller than JPEG at the same measured quality and lossless WebP about 26% smaller than PNG. Many sites now serve images as WebP, so “Save image as” often gives you a .webp file.
