HEIC to JPG Converter
Your files never leave your device
Conversion runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is uploaded; the only downloads are this page and the conversion engine. You can confirm it in your browser's network tab.
Why convert HEIC to JPG?
iPhone photos are HEIC by default, but most websites, Windows PCs without extensions, print kiosks and older apps only accept JPG.
What changes in the JPG
- Files usually get bigger, often 1.5–2×, because JPEG compresses less efficiently than HEVC.
- Visible quality is preserved at quality 92, but the photo is re-compressed, so there is a small generational loss.
- HDR gain maps, depth data (Portrait mode re-focusing) and Live Photo motion are not carried over; you get a standard 8-bit still.
- The colour profile (usually Display P3) is kept, so colours look the same in colour-managed apps.
How Convertz converts it
ImageMagick, compiled to WebAssembly, decodes the file in your browser. It applies the photo’s rotation, keeps the colour profile, removes camera metadata including GPS location, and writes a JPEG at quality 92.
Everything happens on your device; the file is never uploaded.
Common pitfalls
- To stop getting HEIC in the first place, set Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible on the iPhone.
- When copying to a PC, Settings → Photos → Transfer to Mac or PC → Automatic makes the iPhone convert to JPG during transfer.
- If you need the photo’s date and location in the JPG (for example for a photo library), use the Photos app’s export instead; this converter removes them for privacy.

What is HEIC?
The default photo format on iPhone since iOS 11 (2017). It stores images compressed with the HEVC (H.265) video codec, which gives files roughly half the size of a JPEG of similar quality, and can also hold depth maps, HDR gain maps and image sequences such as Live Photos’ still frames.
What is JPG?
The standard format for photographs since 1992. It discards detail the eye is least sensitive to, so files are small, but each re-save loses a little more quality, and hard edges such as text pick up visible artefacts.
