Pascal-second to Poise (Pascal-second to Poise)
Result
10 Poise
Formula
Poise = Pascal-second × 10
1 Pascal-second = 10 Poise, and 1 Poise = 0.1 Pascal-second.
Dynamic viscosity (Pa·s, poise; 1 cP = 1 mPa·s) measures resistance to flow. Kinematic viscosity (m²/s, stokes; 1 cSt = 1 mm²/s) is dynamic viscosity divided by density.
Worked examples
- 1 Pascal-second × 10 = 10 Poise
- 10 Pascal-second × 10 = 100 Poise
- 100 Pascal-second × 10 = 1,000 Poise
Common mistakes
- Kinematic and dynamic viscosity are different quantities: to go from centipoise to centistokes, divide by the fluid's density in g/cm³. For water at 20 °C the two are both about 1.0.
- Motor-oil grades (SAE 5W-30) are classifications, not viscosity units.
