Centipoise to Poise (Centipoise to Poise)
Result
0.01 Poise
Formula
Poise = Centipoise × 0.01
1 Centipoise = 0.01 Poise, and 1 Poise = 100 Centipoise.
Dynamic viscosity (Pa·s, poise; 1 cP = 1 mPa·s) measures resistance to flow. Kinematic viscosity (m²/s, stokes; 1 cSt = 1 mm²/s) is dynamic viscosity divided by density.
Worked examples
- 1 Centipoise × 0.01 = 0.01 Poise
- 10 Centipoise × 0.01 = 0.1 Poise
- 100 Centipoise × 0.01 = 1 Poise
Common mistakes
- Kinematic and dynamic viscosity are different quantities: to go from centipoise to centistokes, divide by the fluid's density in g/cm³. For water at 20 °C the two are both about 1.0.
- Motor-oil grades (SAE 5W-30) are classifications, not viscosity units.
